Dayton — The University of Dayton pauses to raise awareness for a special cause.
Tonight during half time of the university’s basketball game, three area pediatric transplant recipients and their families took to the court to call attention to the ongoing need for more individuals to register as organ and tissue donors.
22-month-old Mya Kendrick, 18-month old Noelle Hope Wingate, and 18-month old Brycen Dabe all received transplants that saved their lives.

Garrettsville teen begins new year with new heart

Porter Lyons received an incredible, completely unexpected gift over the holidays.
The 18-year-old from Garrettsville started the new year with a new heart.
Just one week after suddenly becoming deathly ill on Christmas Eve, the seemingly healthy James A. Garfield High School senior
underwent a heart transplant at the Cleveland Clinic.

NEWARK — Friday was a typical day at the Wright house.

Sliding across their hardwood living room floor, Haiden Wright, 5, and his brother, Elijah Wright, 3, raced their toy monster trucks across the room before starting an epic Nerf gun battle.
As Haiden jumped onto the couch and climbed on top of her, Brittani Wright smiled at her son’s constant energy.
Five years ago, seeing Haiden jump and run and play would have been difficult to imagine.

Man gives back after receiving the gift of life

NEWARK — Friday was a typical day at the Wright house.

ZANESVILLE — Mark Hennessy takes pride in a wall of stacked firewood outlining one of the driveways on his property.
He heats his home with the wood, which he cut himself, something he thought he’d never be able to do again after years of health
problems. Since receiving a new heart almost four years ago, the Zanesville man is determined to do more on his own, as well as whatever he can to showcase his appreciation for life.
